Phill joined the Western Australian Police force in 1988, and became a Detective attached to the state Computer Crimes Unit. He gained extensive experience in criminal forensic analysis of computers, laptops, and mobile devices.
Phill later became an Instructor in various digital forensic methodologies to various Australian State Police, the Australian Federal Police, and the Australia High Tech Crime Center. Phill also delivered training to the European Fraud Investigators (OLAF), and various international Police Forces such as Scotland Yard, Sweden, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Phill also delivered training in the USA, to Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Phill has a Post-Graduate Degree in IT Security, and a Masters Degree in Digital Forensics, both from Edith Cowan University (ECU). Phill's areas of expertise include zero-day events, adhoc risk mitigation, cyber attack frameworks, and the identification and analysis of internal vulnerabilities and external threats. This also extends to a practical working knowledge of investigating Identity theft, fraud, intellectual property theft, and cloud based social media espionage.
Phill is a court expert witness, and has extensive experience in the execution of search warrants, Anton Pillar Orders, civil search orders, and the seizure of electronic evidence and the preservation of the data. He is a Cellebrite Certified Mobile Device Forensic Examiner (CCME), and a Cellebrite Certified Instructor (CCI), and an Oxygen Foresnics Certified Examiner (OFCE). He is also certifed from the Foundations Industry Security (FCIS CREST), and the International Executive Ambassador in the Asia Pacific Region for the High-Tech Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA).
Phill currently operates Computer Investigation Australia (CIA Solutions) where he undertakes ICT eDiscovery related taskings, using tools such as FTK and Encase, and also provides deleted data recovery services foe hard drives. Support has been provided to various Australian banks, and accounting firms including KPMG, Deloitte, EY, and PWC. Phill has also been a speaker and presenter at various international Law Enforcement Conferences, with a focus on Hi-Tech Crime, eDiscovery, and digital forensics.
